Hi friends!
Welcome to P.S.!! I’ve always envisioned these issues to be a true postscript to my normal Friday issues – a place for me to share more personal stories and my absolute favorite recommendations for my best internet friends. Until now, P.S. has been a weekly issue, but I’ve decided to shift to a monthly structure to put more time into making these bonus issues something special. From here forward, P.S. will land in your inbox on the first Monday of each month and will feature stories, articles, podcasts, products, and other bits to round out the previous month. I’m really excited to make P.S. a monthly issue you look forward to, and I’d love to hear from you! Reply to this email or leave a comment about what you’d like to see featured in these longer issues, and I’ll see what I can do. 👀
Since today’s P.S is a long one, here’s a key to help you skim if you only have time for the highlights:

🤫My Dramatic Moving Story
I am writing today’s issue from the comfort of my ~new home~!! I’ve written about my home-buying journey in the past few months (check it out here and here), but closing day finally came, and we’re all moved in!! I’m happily decorating and finishing the tail end of the unpacking process, but it was far from smooth sailing to get here.
In a 2020 survey, 45% of respondents ranked moving as the most stressful life experience, above going through a breakup/divorce, getting married, and having children. In the same survey, 94 percent of respondents who hired movers said it was worth every penny! I’ve hired movers before, and tend to agree. Planning, packing, sorting, and organizing is stressful enough — the last thing I want to do is risk damaging my things (or my body!!) by carrying heavy shit down several flights of stairs. 😬
And that’s not to downplay the cost of movers!! It’s a luxury, especially when buying a house and moving is expensive enough. But this move came during an especially busy time, so I apologized to my bank account and justified the little splurge to help make everything run a little smoother – or so I thought.
I found a moving company I remembered having good reviews (cue foreboding foreshadowing music), and scheduled a call to prepare for the big day. The owner of the company asked me the size of the apartment, how many rooms were in it, and what my big pieces of furniture were. Past movers I’ve hired seemed to be much more specific when asking for information about what they’d be moving, but I trusted the process, received a quote, and got everything scheduled with this new-to-me company!
Moving day started on a delay, when they pulled up 30 minutes after their scheduled start — no big deal! I was honestly still scrambling to finish the last of our packing, and it was a rainy day, so I was especially happy I’d invested in help! There were three movers, two of whom were still in high school. And look, while high schoolers may be capable of moving some delicate furniture, as luck would have it, this was their very first day on the job. 🙃 And left to train them was a third man who was much closer to my age. Let’s call him Darryl.
Since P.S. is a special bonus for my paid subscribers, I’m reserving the rest of the Darryl Drama™️ and my top June 2024 recommendations just for this special group! If you haven’t already, I’d love for you to join our community to gain full access to this and more exclusive content!
