Sometimes when I’m exceptionally bored but want to avoid the mindless scrolling of social media, I’ll open up my photo app. This digital space is a treasure trove of memories, and I love how a simple image can remind me of the most elaborate backstories. So today, I thought I would share some of these photos and the stories behind them.
These are a collection of journals I passed with my friends in middle school and high school. My friend group had evolved beyond the simple technology of “note passing” in order to accommodate times when we weren’t in class with one another and couldn’t pass a note. Plus, notebooks were less likely than a note to get us caught by our teachers, haha. We’d swap journals during passing time, and write updates to each other during the following class period. Each of us would write in a different color, and we had a whole list of code names for our crushes just in case the notebook ever fell into the wrong hands.
