Hi friends!
With fingers crossed and knuckles tapping against my wooden desk, I want to wish you a happy spring!! Since I live in Minnesota, the threat of snow continues to loom until we are solidly in May. It was a weird weather year, with a heavy snowfall on Halloween followed by a winter that can barely be categorized as such. We had a 70-degree day in February! Thinking about the climate implications is scary, but with my Seasonal Affective Disorder kept happily at bay, it was truthfully something I could get used to.
Overall, 2024 has been really kind to me. The first day of January started sweetly. Andrew and I woke up from our New Year’s festivities only slightly hungover and dragged ourselves out the door to a dim sum breakfast. It was wonderfully cozy. Afterward, we knighted ourselves “New Year's Elves” and delivered donuts from a local bakery to the doorsteps of our friends. Thinking about it now makes me smile. We started our year full of the things I value most in this phase of my life: food, presence, friends, and connection.
Most of the past three months have been dominated by my work, and fortunately, I love my job enough for it to be a really good thing. My podcast Truer Crime has been a huge focus (you can read more about the podcast and why I started it here), and we’re on track to release Season 2 this summer! Season 1 was produced entirely in my apartment with the help of just a few people. But now, I get the immense pleasure of working with Tenderfoot TV, which means adjusting to a larger team structure. I love collaborating, and being able to work with a larger group of immensely talented people has really elevated the show!!
We released three episodes this past December (check them out on Apple Podcasts here, on Spotify here, or on any other podcast players by searching “Truer Crime”), and I love how they turned out. As we plan out Season 2, I’ve gotten to work on multiple stories about folks on death row, and it’s been illuminating to hear their experiences and see how different death row is across the country. There’s a lot to learn from people in this position, and I feel incredibly honored to get to work with some of them and tell their stories in the coming months!
And in the depths of writing (which can admittedly be a sometimes arduous and painful process), I’m so thankful for reviews like these that remind me why this podcast matters. It makes it all worth it:
In other more daily news, Piedmont developed what we later found out was just a mild case of feline acne lol. A small pimple on his chin that I determined had a 50% chance of being cancer.
We spent an entire day organizing our lives around the animal hospital, waiting for him to be seen.
Diagnosis: Catne.
Prognosis: Wonderful.
Wallet: Less Full than The Day Before.
Me: A Fool.
Mood: Relieved.
But on the bright side, the trip to the vet gave me the perfect opportunity to snag this great photo of Piedmont in his carrier 😂.
